Six months between Nando's and over a full year since this officially opened!

Although this officially opened just before the first March 2020 lockdown, Manchester was largely in higher tiers - and then the January 2021 lockdown meant getting into the greater Manchester area was a little tricky. However, with the lockdown easing in England and indoor eating now an option since 17th May - it meant visiting Walkden again was possible! :)

This Nando's is in the 'New Walkden Town Centre' shopping centre and specifically the Ellesmere Shopping Centre. There are over 2,000 free parking spaces across the whole site and many available right outside Nando's. The whole complex is anchored by a huge Tesco. Walkden train station is a half mile walk away.

Arrived here at about 6pm on the bank holiday and given the current situation, it was very quiet with just a few tables in use. This did mean the food came in under 10 minutes though! Staff were very attentive - and seeing as though you can't currently get your own cutlery or drink refills, they were religiously checking if anything else was needed.

It's not the brightest or most interesting of branches - especially as it is the newest one. It looks as though it has been established a while and could certainly do with a bit more colour. There are some larger tables in the front windows underneath some large lattice effect lampshades. All of the leather upholstery is the old style red and not the bright oranges and yellows we see now. The back wall does have a couple of large canvas paintings on. Toilets accessed at the back and were tiled in a rather plain blue-white square pattern.

This was my first chance to have the new garlic BBQ sauce on the chicken and it was a good choice. The sauce was sticky and sweet but had that undeniable garlic peri-peri flavour. It was a decent size as well and cooked perfectly - hot and moist. The rice and chip portion were pretty average in size, the rice portion size maybe a tad small. Chips were piping hot and crispy.
