Birmingham - Selly Oak - Ryan Review
Opening day! So what better way than to have a nice lunch of chicken and chips?? :)
This Nando's is located on the new Selly Oak Shopping Park. The likes of Next, M&S Food and Wilko are also open on this new retail park, but the very large Sainsbury's that will anchor it all is far from complete. At the moment, there are no parking restrictions and there are hundreds of parking spaces. Selly Oak train station is 6 or 7 minute walk away.
Arrived at this Nando's just after 12 and it had only officially been open for an hour, but it was already very busy. Just a few tables free. There are some tables outside, but while the construction of Sainsbury's is going on next door, it wouldn't be a pleasant place to sit... Inside there's a good mixture of seating. Lots of tables for four with booths at the very back. At the front, the ceiling is made up what seems to be 100+ oil drums, which was rather funky. Towards the back some nice bright canvas paintings. Toilets are upstairs at the far back-right and wer every clean, tiled in black and white squares with splashes of orange on the mirror surround.
There were four of us and we were advised there'd be a bit of a wait ordering because the staff were so new and the queue to order was around 10 minutes. After ordering, all of the table's food came in just under 25 minutes. It was a bit of a mixed bag. I had a half chicken with chips and rice and my portion sizes were average. My chicken was rather dry though sadly - it needed a lot of sauce to moisten it up... the chips were cooked well and the spicy rice was hot enough.
Staff were pleasant enough but seemingly run off their feet so doing as expected.
