Barking - Ryan Review
Just writing this while watching Question Time (as you do) and it is in Barking tonight... wow, spooky. Anyway...
This Nando's is right in the Barking centre and just a short walk and over the road from the tube station, so easily found. I was driving in and the parking signs direct you towards the Vicarge Fields shopping centre, but unfortunately it was closed when I arrived at 9pm, so not sure when it is open. If you are driving, then bend right round the pedestrian zone and there are a few car parks there and on-street parking bays (all less than a few minutes walk away) which charge from 6am-9pm (so was free for me). I doubt any of the car parks in this bit have a Park Mark award though...
This Nando's is yet another example of a very plain and old style Nando's, especially in London and is in need of a spruce up. Everything is generally brown or beige, so wood carvings, or beige light shaded or brown window blinds so no colour on the walls to speak of. The only striking feature was the sink in the toilets mounted on an old chest of draws. Seating is good and mixed however. As you enter you are on a raised section and to your left are some booths and tables.chair sets and then a couple steps down to the lower section there is more varied seating arrangements. Quite bright inside, just lots of standard spotlights or beige lampshades.
There were only 6 people eating when I arrived and there were at least 7 staff on, so, as with Taunton, I was again surprised to not be spoken to at all during the meal, to have my cock left at the end and to not have a "farewell and tally ho chap" when leaving...
But, I am pleased to say that the food came in under 4 minutes and was delicious. The rice was steaming hot and moist, the chips were piping hot and crispy and covered the plate... and the chicken was superb too. It was actually brought across on two plates because there were so many chips and the two bits of chicken were huge. Both were cooked perfectly too - hot and moist right to the bone and not a pinky bit of meat in sight - and both bits were caked in sauce. Mmmmm mmmm!
