A Teachers Guide to a School Trip to Nando’s
It was the dawn of a new day, the sun was peeking over the few clouds that remain in the sky from the perilous weather that had ravaged the land the previous night. There was a break in the bright rays as eight brave travellers appeared over the horizon, their silhouettes revealing no details of their features but all who laid eyes upon this incredible moment knew one thing... 'The Fellowship of the Chicken' were on their final stretch towards the 'Eye of Nando's' (High Wycombe) to destroy the 'One Hunger'.

Pray, I re tell this legend and in some people's opinion in a rather over exaggerated manner but the matter of fact is, I was there, and this is how it happened. We approached the 'Eye of Nando's' (High Wycombe) with caution for we were unsure of the levels of heat that may emanate from the fryers once we stepped in. Once in we realised we were safe, and in fact, were well looked after and cared for by the Nando's dwellers (I think they called themselves Nandoca's?). We were seated by the Nandoca's straight away, a welcomed experience after our epic journey from the Maiden of Head to the Highest of Wycombe. Regardless, there was still a mission to complete and there was only one way to do so. We battled our way to the front of a queue to be greeted by another Nandoca... they were everywhere you looked, and were always ready to help, a real treat at the end of our mission. The Nandoca supplied us with drinking vessels and a confirmation that we would be able to destroy the One Hunger once and for all with a slip of paper called a 'receipt' which listed the exact items that would be brought to us to finish it once and for all. I will never forget the help that Nandoca did for our Fellowship, a true hero.

As we re-hydrated at the watering hole we sat brimming with anticipation at the potential to conquer the 'Eye of Nando's' and it wasn't long before the opportunity arose.. mountains and mountains of chicken arrived at our bench. Sizzling hot, and the Peri-Peri smell buffeting and wafting throughout the building. We dove in, battling the heat and the sharp nip of the peri salt that was lathered across our Potato Fries. The epic journey was coming to an end, and in rather impressive fashion. Nothing was left once we had waded our way through the pool of peri-peri and the One Hunger was finally destroyed.

As we sit there triumphant and unable to move, due to the consumption of such a generous helping of the traditional Portuguese cuisine, we revelled in the surroundings we were blessed with. Having been so focused on the task ahead previously we had only just noticed the subtle but bright décor of the building. A far sight different from the rocks and stones we had encountered more often than not on our perilous voyage to our now sacred ‘Eye of Nando’s’. There was this ‘vibe’ as the locals said around us, which sat well with me, relatively modern stylings with a traditional design that wasn’t in your face and fit well with the sweet tang of the spicy chicken.

Upon our withdrawal from the legendary building and as we began our lengthy hike back to Maiden of Head we began to reflect on the final stretch of our challenging journey. It was a joyful experience had by all, we were all recharged, reenergised and my taste buds were left wanting far more than was consumed at the time. Hopefully one day I can make that trip back to secure another world altering meal.
