Glasshouse Street - Adam Nicol Review
I decided to go to this branch because it’s half way between me and my girlfriend and so close to Piccadilly circus, I usually try to avoid going on Friday nights because I know it’s bound to be really busy… and this was no exception.. When we got there the entrance bit was packed full of people, we got told it would be half an hour before we would get seated, I said it was fine since I didn’t want to go out in the cold to find an emptier branch, eventually we got called and sent downstairs… This was ridiculous!!!! The tables for two were about an inch away from each other, I was almost sitting on the knee of the people next to us, so much wasted space in this branch, whoever decided the table layouts is stupid, It was a real struggle to squeeze into the seats.
The Speed of Service was pretty fast though, there was only one person in front of us in the queue so we got served almost immediately, I had no trouble getting my free whole chicken half medium and half extra hot. I expected the food to take ages to arrive, but my girlfriends chips arrived before we’d even sat down, which meant they were almost cold before the rest of the food arrived about five minutes later. So overall pretty quick speed of service.. but sometimes this isn’t a good thing. 4/5 for speed of service.
The staff were nice and friendly though, greeting us kindly and putting our name on the waiting list. The person who served me was also pretty friendly, I didn’t get a new loyalty card though I feel empty without having a loyalty card. So overall the staff were pretty friendly, though nothing really stood out as extra friendly so I’ll give them a 3/5
The food was very disappointing, as I stated, my girlfriends chips were brought over immediately and I ate some of them, they were all burnt and not very nice. The whole chicken was brought on the same plate as my large chips and garlic bread, this made it awkward to get the medium chicken off and all the sauce had dripped off and left most of my chips damp and tasting gross, the chicken was tiny! There was hardly any meat on it I noticed as soon as they brought it over, THAT’S TINY. Ugh. The only positive thing about the meal was the garlic bread, it was delicious, I really enjoyed the large garlic bread and it kept me from getting too upset at the poor quality of the chips and chicken. However, the portion of chips was hugeee. I’m going to have to give the food a 2/5 because it was just terrible.
The décor was cool in this branch, stood in the entrance for 30 minutes I had lots of time to observe it, pots in holes in walls and paintings, the usual stuff really, and the big spiral staircase that leads to all the tables downstairs. My girlfriend was disappointing that this branch didn’t have a bar like Covent Garden does! But I suppose it is a smaller space. Downstairs in the branch I didn’t really get a good look at the décor, I was too preoccupied with being squashed in between two different people, but the layout of the downstairs was ridiculous and it could have so much more space if they changed it so I’m going to give décor a 4/5 because I did quite like it.
So overall, this was a disappointing visit, though I did leave stuffed and full to bursting. Poor food, friendly staff, average décor, overall I’d give this branch a 2.5/5.
