PLACE: Table 18. This was a Tinder date with a girl that looked very hot in her pictures so I thought I’d impress her by showing her a bit of ‘what I’m about’. I told her to meet me at Neasden station at 4:30pm for a post-valentines, romantic, early dinner. First mistake- it was 4:30pm so it wasn’t dark. I forgot how awkward dates feel when you meet when it’s still light out. I told her to ‘follow me’ as we traversed roundabouts, dual carriageways and bridges not fit for pedestrian use. In the Nando’s app, the restaurant looked close to the station but it is impossible to reach by foot. It took us 15 minutes to get close to the pin on the map and then it dawned on me, THIS NANDO’S IS IN TESCO! Oh no, I have genuinely brought a girl on a date to Tesco to show her ‘what I’m about’. I thought I’d just style it with confidence and take a picture of her with it in the background. The actual do’s is unique as it features the tall glass external structure of Tesco but features a rustic curved wooden ceiling. There is also an entrance from Tesco which allows people to bring their shopping trolleys right up to their tables. I have to say, despite me concluding that this was the future of supermarkets, it killed the romance somewhat. Also, the shared toilets with Tesco- NOT GOOD (no air blade, no Latin tunes to relax you)- 6/10

SERVICE: Carlos. What a sweet gentlemen. He was a trainee but he really had been burdened with a lot this Sunday. Serving me in his apron, pivoting on the spot to turn chickens over on the grill, then back to serving me. The problem with Carlos is that he didn’t quite anticipate the almighty grandure of my order and I think he was accustomed to just inputting combo meals into the till system. My order featured a lot of customisation and extra products that are normally only ordered by nandsperts like me so, being new, he probably hadn’t encountered them yet. He also couldn’t grasp the idea of a ’side salad’ thinking that I wanted a salad featuring an ingredient named ’side’ in it- 9 for effort but 4 overall, I would potentially be his friend though.

FOOD: This nanquet that I ordered really impressed Victoria. I’m always in awe of the large PERi chips portion because it is THREE normal chips portions (little tip there). The food was absolutely spot on. Every piece of chicken was juicy and fresh and they had actually grilled the peri-tamer sauce over the extra hot sauce like I asked (unlike Greenwich who just add the tamer in a bowl to the side). The pineapple was GRILLED. HOORAY, my first grilled pineapple of 2014, I had thought do’s had stopped this practice altogether. If any Nando managers are reading this please let me say… NEVER STOP GRILLING THOSE PINEAPPLES. It’s a surefire way to get an extra point in my review, no matter how bad or good the food is. I’ve always found that the Halloumi cheese is a great way to impress a date and luckily Victoria loved it. The cream portions on the desserts were massive- 9/10

COMPANION: Victoria. What a lovely, sweet and pretty date to have this Valentineboxing Day. She was totally at ease with the idea of being brought to a Tesco and even described herself as being ‘converted to Nando’s’ by me! We sat for over an hour talking about chicken and her complex job- which I can’t quite remember because I was busy live-blogging the date on my Facebook page. The night was perfect until at the end she said 'oh, this was DATE? I wouldn’t wear this to a date’. Still, I got a kiss on the cheek at Neasden Underground station so not all is lost. I hope I see you again Victoria, if you are reading this… please- 8/10
